Welcome to Sunday’s ART of Truth!
I want to talk with you a bit today about something that I think is so important for us to talk about. Worthiness. This is something that is a daily struggle for me. I know I am not alone in how tough the fight is. I also have not arrived at a place of rest on this topic but it is beginning to be sewn into the fabric of my thinking and the layers of my heart. I constantly fight the lies that say that I am only worthy, if…
If I do everything right. If people like me, if I perform or if I don’t make people mad. Or, if I don’t do what is ‘expected’ of me.
My friends, do you know that you are worthy?
You are worthy of love, acceptance & belonging? You are worthy of being seen, heard, respected and honored.
This is not about entitlement as it has been defined by the world. It is about an innate truth of ‘being’, defined as ‘inborn and natural.’
We are worthy because we ‘are’. We are worthy before we ever do anything to try to earn it. Long before someone stole it away from us. Not after we find a mate or have a child. Not after we raise our kids or retire comfortably.
Worthiness shouldn’t have anything to do with what we do, what job we have, our size, our education, our success on any level. It shouldn’t have anything to do with marital status or how much money we have in our bank accounts.
We are worthy NOW. Not when we arrive. Not when we are completely healed or have it all together. Nor when people around us are happy.
Our worthiness is in BEING, not doing.
We all live with lying tapes. Bren’e Brown calls them Gremlins. I like that. I have been revisiting a lot of the concepts and ideas that she has been speaking about and studying for years. I am finding healing in applying them to my life now.
The Gremlins are sneaky and nasty. For some, they have been around for so long, we don’t know that they are not part of us or part of our truth. The Gremlins lie. They tell us that we don’t matter and that we will never be enough.
This is what prompted further processing for me.
I am a perfectionist. I am fairly OCD. I like things to be in order and pretty. I read people to see where I fit. I pay attention to their feelings to find my value. I react when I feel unseen or unheard. I don’t react on the outside, I let the Gremlins feed on my emotional flesh until I can’t bear it anymore.
As I was listening to one of Brene’s audiobooks, I kept thinking, the truth is that I am worthy now.
Not after I lose 50 pounds or get in shape. Not if I do everything perfectly.
My friends, there is nothing that we need to ‘do’ to be worthy.
I am learning that this truth has to start within me. I must take charge of the Gremlins. I am the one with the power to kick them out. No one is responsible for me, but me.
My friends, this is true for all of us. We all have the power to live in the truth that we are worthy of belonging, acceptance & love. I wrote a blog a couple of years ago about Live Loved. What we believe about ourselves is greater than the circumstances around us. I wrote this at a particularly scary time when I did not know what the future held, or for that matter, tomorrow. Living Loved is living as though you are loved.

I began to live as though my husband could not wait to come home and kiss me. I practiced living like I was the most beautiful woman on the planet. I lived pretty. I lived contentment. I lived confident. I lived hope.
I began to Live Loved. Was it magical? Not really. Did it begin to heal and transform me? Yes! Did it mean that my husband came home and madly and passionately kissed me? No. Did our relationship get better? Yes!
My friends, the power in living Worthy NOW is powerful and goes hand in hand with Living Loved.
I want to encourage you if this is a tender place for you. You are loved. You are magnificent. Not because you ‘do’ but because you are.
We are imperfect, cracked & vulnerable. Yet, we are worthy.
