Crash That Highland Trash | Mixed Media Master Board From Scraps
Happy Friday!
Itβs time to Crash That Highland Trash! π
Today Iβm gathering the scraps and leftovers from my Highland Love journal and giving them an entirely new life in a mixed media master board.
Iβm layering scrap papers, coffee-dyed pieces, specialty papers, book-page fragments, cheesecloth, lace and bits of coffee-dyed doilies across the surface. Paint, texture and splatters bring all those unrelated pieces together while still allowing glimpses of the original papers to remain.
This is the kind of creating I love because there is room for imperfection. Torn edges overlap. Bits peek through. Paint travels across several layers. Nothing needs to be precisely placed or carefully matched.
After the master board is finished, I cut it into individual pieces off camera and add wonky, irregular stitching around them. I love what happens when that large composition becomes smaller pieces. Each one captures a completely different little section of the original board and becomes its own piece of mixed media ephemera.
Most of these materials could easily have ended up in the trash, but together they create something wonderfully layered, textured and completely unique.
