Hidden Explosion Writing Space | A Creative Belly Band Idea
Happy Monday!
Today I’m taking the humble belly band in a completely different direction.
This one begins with an anchored belly band that stays securely attached to the journal page, but the piece it holds is completely removable. That means we can pull it out, open it up and actually use all of this writing space without trying to work around the journal itself.
And there is quite a bit of writing space hiding inside.
The removable piece includes a notebook-style writing area along with an explosion fold that opens to reveal another unexpected place for journaling. When everything is folded back together, it slips neatly behind the belly band and becomes part of the page again.
I made several samples while working through this design, including versions where I turned the belly band itself into an additional pocket. It is one basic construction with lots of room to change the papers, layers and finishing details to suit whatever journal you are working in.
I love projects that look like decorative ephemera at first and then surprise us with how much they can actually do. This one definitely does that.
I hope it gives you another idea for adding useful writing space to your journals while still making something beautiful.
