A Journal Card That Keeps Opening | Pockets, Flips & Hidden Writing Space
Sometimes the best journal pieces are the ones that don’t need to be attached to a page at all.
Today I’m creating a floating journal card filled with places to tuck, write and discover. Two scalloped pockets across the front hold journal cards and smaller pieces, while the card itself opens to reveal a full two-page writing space inside. There is also a flip writing space on the back—and one more little pocket surprise tucked into the construction.
I made several versions to show how completely the same idea can change simply by changing the papers, images and details. From the soft Highland landscape and little owl to the rich greens and butterflies, each one developed its own personality while keeping all of that wonderful hidden function.
This is the kind of project I love: beautiful enough to become part of the journal’s story, but useful enough to actually be written in and filled over time. And because it floats rather than being permanently attached, it can be moved, tucked into a pocket or slipped wherever it feels at home.
