Layered Cluster Pockets | Texture, Layers & Generous Writing Space

There is something I love about building with layers—letting bits of paper, lace, texture and imagery overlap until all those individual pieces begin to feel like they have always belonged together.

In today’s Creative Projects episode, I’m creating layered cluster pockets for my Highland Love Journal. These pockets are built from an assortment of contrasting papers, embossed textures, lace, torn and inked edges and die-cut elements, with beautiful imagery becoming part of the layers themselves.

And these aren’t just decorative clusters. The pockets give me a place to tuck in the larger journal prompt cards I’ve created for Highland Love, adding meaningful writing space while still allowing the page to feel abundant, tactile and collected.

I especially love that no two need to be alike. Each little scrap or unexpected layer changes where the next piece wants to go, and eventually what began as a pile of unrelated materials becomes one complete piece.

I hope you’ll gather some scraps, lace and favorite images and create along with me. Sometimes the smallest pieces on our tables become the ones that bring everything together.
