A Hidden Paperclip with Over 17 Inches of Writing Space | Creative Projects

Sometimes the smallest details are hiding the biggest surprises.
Today in Creative Projects, I’m creating a removable hidden paperclip that unfolds to reveal more than 17 inches of writing space. When it is folded closed, the paperclip itself is tucked inside the construction, and a simple wrap of seam binding keeps everything together.
The finished piece clips right onto a belly band, making it easy to remove whenever you’re ready to write. And because I can never resist adding just one more place for a story, there is a bonus full-page writing space tucked behind the belly band too.
I created several samples while working through this idea, and I love how easily the basic construction can change depending on the papers, size and journal you’re working in. The Highland Love version feels especially at home among those misty landscapes, worn textures and little reminders to record the life being lived between the adventures.
There is a tremendous amount of usable writing space tucked into what first appears to be a decorative little addition to the page—and that is exactly the kind of surprise I love building into my journals.
I hope this gives you another idea for creating meaningful places for words, memories and stories in your own journals.
