Veiled Memories | A Layered Multi-Flip for Quiet Gatherings
Happy Wednesday!
There is something beautiful about a journal piece that doesn’t reveal everything at once.
Today in Quiet Gatherings, I’m creating a layered multi-flip filled with soft vintage imagery, torn edges, aged tape and quiet little details that seem to belong together. The ballerina becomes the beginning of the story, resting on a transparent layer that allows just enough of what is underneath to show through.
As the layers move, more of the piece begins to appear. Images give way to pattern, tucked pieces can be removed, and areas for writing are worked into the construction without taking away from the softness of the design.
I especially love the way the torn edges and aged tape keep everything from feeling too finished. There is a worn, gathered quality to it—as though these pieces may have been kept together for a very long time.
Once returned to the journal, the construction becomes part of the page and the spread is divided by the signature, allowing the different portions of the piece to live naturally within the journal rather than simply sitting on top of it.
I hope this one encourages you to play with transparency, layering and movement, and to let beautiful images lead you somewhere you may not have planned.
Thank you for spending this little bit of creative time with me.
